The rules for expansion are different in a batch file. ![]() Once the name is selectedif you’re renaming a file, not the file extensionyou can start to type a new name. Click on a file or folder to select it, and click Rename from the Home menu at the top of File Explorer. Or you can specify the full path to the batch file when you call it. Fire up File Explorer by pressing Windows+E, and navigate to a directory with either a file or folder to rename. The batch file will also have to be in your current directory unless the batch file exists in a directory that is in your PATH variable. In the example below, the folder contains 13 photo files with. The batch file will rename files in your current directory. Enter the new name for the files and hit the Enter key. You can alternatively use the keyboard shortcut ‘F2’ to rename the files. Right-click the selected files and click on the Rename icon from the context menu. There's also a preview function, so if you make multiple changes to a file you'll be able to see what the finished version will look like even before Rename Master gets to work. Just use the Add option, type in what you want to add in the Suffix box, highlight a couple files to confirm the New Name matches what you want, then hit. Open the folder containing the files you want to rename. Open File Explorer using the Windows 11 keyboard shortcut ‘Win+E’ and select the files you wish to rename. ![]() Rename Master works quickly and smoothly, even with lots of files. If you want to create and save your own, however, you'll be able to. The program offers a default script, which covers the basics and then some. Rename Master uses multiple-level instructions, so you can change more than one aspect of the file's name in a single renaming operation.
